Surprisingly, I couldn’t find many articles writing about protecting our little ones from head bumps, but when I googled the above, a list of baby head protection and products popped up, followed by questions from parents on babies’ head bumps and prevention.
Perhaps no one really have an answer to the prevention of head bumps as the only solution is an innate instinct to avoid it. Adults have developed this instinct through experiences, but what about our little ones? Is the only way letting them roam and bump their heads or with caregivers walking around like penguins with flapping arms hovering over the crawling and walking toddlers?
Little ones’ heads are so fragile and I believe strongly that it is important to protect them. Head bumps range from huge swellings to the size of ping-pong balls to nasty cuts which may require stitches. I had my share of bad experience rushing to the hospital – guilty as charged. Believe me, the guilt still exist today after several years – why was I so careless? Will she be mentally impaired? So why do we not protect our babies after the first bump? Because it might not happen again? Because they need to learn to avoid the furniture? And when it happen the second time – I went scrambling to the stores to look for one. At that time, I couldn’t find any except baby helmets online which were pretty heavy, bulky and they were just not what I was looking for. I wanted something simple, light and well-ventilated. Unfortunately, procrastination came with a hefty price of her bumping her head backwards from the piano chair! Out of desperation, I made Little Hood cushion hat for her.
Little Hood cushion hat is a unique product as it does NOT have a chin strap and YOU get to customize the hat as your children’s heads are all different in shapes and circumferences. Some of your babies’ heads are flat at the back, some have oval shaped heads and some heads are perfect rounds! That is why baby helmets which come with chin straps may not be suitable for even toddlers of 6 months and above. Little Hood ‘Extras’ has a wide range of straps available to allow parents to can get the perfect fitting for their little ones’ heads.
Head bumps can also be prevented in various ways by putting foam mats on hard floorings and adorned furniture with paddings and corner guards. But when we bring our little ones outside their comfort zone, parents have to be on their cautious mode to prevent head bumps. I hope that Little Hood cushion hat is the solution for you!
